    Hi Vulcain!!!

I agree, the nylon strap fitted on the black dial Rolex Explorer is off the hook cool!!! Gorgeous is the perfect word. It really is stunningly gorgeous!!!!

I have a stainless Cartier Roadster with the black art-deco dial and I put a custom Cartier crocodile strap on it and it looks incredible!!! There is really something to be said for a watch with a stainless body, black dial and black band. I think the black band gives it a more formal, dressy look and at the smae time it makes it look sporty. I think the watch is one of the best looking Rolex watches I have ever seen.

Another insanely great looking customized Rolex is the Vanilla Espresso GMT/Explorer and the Vanilla Pepsi. I also refer to the Vanilla Espresso as the Oreo Cookie. You can see great photos of it here:

    http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2008/05/super-cool-customized-rolex-gmts-by-pcs.html

There is a better looking photo of it because I bumped up the contrast here:
    http://rolexblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/vanilla-coke-vanilla-pepsi-and-oreo.html

To me, I think the Explorer looks better with the black and silver spinning bezel especially with the white dial.

The photo of Chuck Yeager wearing the 6538 took my breath away when I first saw it!!!!!!! I mean that photo is the real deal, before anybody new what Rolex was.

Sorry about the confusion on the NASA Astronaut Jack Swigert. If you click on the images on my Rolex Blog they all get bigger. The printing is not easy to read, but it appears to read: « This watch was flown to the Moon on Apollo XIII, April 11-17, 1970. »

I don’t know if the watch went for a walk on the moon? but I am curious like you, so I am looking into it. You can’t imagine how difficult and challenging it is to find all this stuff. I love searching for and putting together the stories on my watch blog but it is definitely challenging, and most of the time one discovery leads to even more questions.

I am glad that you find my Rolex Wristwatch Blog to be very interesting. I love putting it together and sharing it. As a matter of fact, the fact that we are talking from opposite sides of the earth is amazing. Rolex is internationally appealing like a smile thumleft thumleft thumleft

    Warmest regards,
    Jake Ehrlich

The photo showing Chuck Yeager wearing a 6538 is impressive. I wasn’t aware of it, thank you.

Could you please tell me what’s written in the note sent to Jeanneret, above the Jack Swigert’s 1675 picture. I can’t see the text correctly. Does it clearly state that the watch landed on the Moon? If yes, dit the watch went out of the Apollo spaceship for a walk?

    Hi Jake,

Thanks so much for your detailed answers.
Indeed, the Vanilla Espresso GMT is tremendous. And what I found surprising is that the dial readability is OK with the GMT hands whose steel is not painted in black like the Explorer’s II.

Rolex shoud go for a new Panam GMT, it would be a hit, for sure.

I can easily imagine how irksome and time consuming your search (quest?) for infos may be. congrats for sharing!!!! Rolex is really a bewitching brand….

    Kind regards,
    Michel.
