- Bonjour,

Congratulations to the new record of the TGV – WOW what a speed!!!
1.The movement is a LeCoultre, I estimate an edited Caliber 47
2.The case have two colors: the case is yellow gold and the bezel seems to be red gold? (If yes, this isn´t a kind of quality of the IWC Schaffhausen) The front cover is very nice with the scene. Here I estimate Huguenin as case maker of Le Locle?
3.Le Phare took also base movements (Ebauches) from LeCoultre but did not produce such a kind of centrifugal governor.
4.Without any more pictures from the movement engravings, serial numbers and all other engravings of the case and dust cover, I would be very careful to think it´s a IWC Schaffhausen.
5.With a serial number the owner might ask IWC Schaffhausen (I don´t know if complicated movements have a separate serial list in Schaffhausen)Avec mes meilleures salutions

MembreBonsoir jeff33,

MembreHi Antoine,
I am not sure either it is an IWC but it is coming from the original owner and a watch with the same dial and case style was sold at Sothebys in JUne 2006.
Do you know if IWC made its own repeater movement?
Best,

MembreSalut Andre,
for sure the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen produced in the near past very high complicated watch movements like the DaVinci, but for pocket watches in the time of yours – I would rather say no. There was one exception in the 1990s, were nobody believed to see a "Magique": only 2 pieces were produced and one for Mr.F.Sartori in Palermo, sold at the 6th December of 1886. This kind of "Cabriolet" pocket watch was to wear either as Lepine (OF) or as Savonnette (HC). But this wasn´t a repeater or a complicated pocket watch. When I try to identify watches, I search for the typical characteristics, like symbols, engravings or others. With yours I miss pictures of these symbols to proof, equal from the movement or case. For me it seems, that yours have a red gold colored bezel (the ring around the glass) and the whole case is yellow gold. Am I right?
Le Phare is here out of discussion: the centrifugal governor was with two exceptions 3 times bigger than yours. Many other companys copied Charles Barbezat-Baillot´s inventions CH-334, CH-7782, CH-13244 or CH-13247. (Charles-Ami Barbezat-Baillot was the founder of Le Phare in 1888. Before he was together with Henri Guye as Guye&Barbezat) without law suits.
I estimate yours as modified LeCoultre Caliber 47. I was also wondering to see at the dial INTERNATIONAL WATCH Co. (the dials were signed so in 1869-1875, like the Jones-Calibers). The watch at the Sotheby´s auction, may someone have seen its movement to compare? The case design might be the same, but the movement? Here I´ve really doubts that it would be genuine IWC.If you find a serial number, you may get in contact with Mr.Friedberg in Chicago. He´s the chief of the american IWC message board.

I hope he may help.
Please let me know if I was wrong or right.
Happy Eastern all together!
Avec mes meilleres salutions!
