La finition d’acier la plus résistante

En dehors de l’aspect, le traitement de surface "Tegiment" de Sinn semble redoutablement efficace contre les rayures. Il rend l’acier de surface 6 fois plus résistant que l’acier classique, s’approchant ainsi de la dureté de la céramique. Il me semble avoir lu quelque-part qu’un traitement équivalent était utilisé sur la coque des sous-marins…

Sinn trademark for a stainless steel with an especially hard surface. Already the first series of our pilot’s Duochronograph 756 was offered in a case quality that was characterized among other things by its special hardness. On the Vickers scale of hardness this model is a 700. That is more than three times that of a normal steel used for watch cases. With the help of a process that can only be internationally guaranteed by one company in this quality, we are now capable of just about doubling this value for case surfaces. A Tegiment case has a Vickers hardness of approximately 1200. This value corresponds approximately to the hardness of common zircon oxide ceramics. A Tegiment layer is not a coating consisting of a foreign material. It is the steel itself that has been hardened using a special process that acts like a protective coat (tegimentum is the Latin term). The base material we choose for this is a type of stainless steel that is for example also used for surgical implantations. Its resistance to corrosion is even further improved by the hardening process. The first model to be outfitted with a Tegiment case is the second series of our most technological watch, the Duochronograph 756. Other Sinn models will also be serially outfitted with this technology.
